Adequacy Decisions between the European Union and Brazil
On January 27th, 2026, the European Union"s adequacy decision for Brazil was published, pursuant to article 45 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), recognizing that Brazil ensures a level of protection of personal data essentially equivalent to the European one. Reciprocally, Brazil published the decision on Brazil"s adequacy for the European Union, pursuant to the General Data Protection Law (LGPD, in the Portuguese acronym) and Resolution CD/ANPD No. 19/2024.

In the 40th edition of our Intellectual Property Newsletter, TozziniFreire’s IP team highlights key updates, including a new Federal Revenue guideline facilitating the seizure of counterfeit goods, ongoing patent cooperation discussions between Brazil and China, and the release of the BPTO’s 2025 IP statistics. SECEX launches anti-dumping review to assess continuation of dumping in clear float glass
On February 11, 2026, SECEX/MDIC Circular No. 09/2026 was published, initiating the review to assess the continuation or recurrence of dumping practices in exports of clear float glass (2 mm to 19 mm) from China, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Mexico to Brazil, and the resulting injury to the domestic industry.

Brazil’s SECEX initiates anti-dumping probe into graphite electrodes
On March 12, 2026, SECEX/MDIC Circular No. 18/2026 initiated an investigation to determine whether there is dumping in exports of machined graphite electrodes, with a nominal diameter of 350 mm (14 inches), of any length, of the type used in electric furnaces, whether assembled or disassembled, from China and India to Brazil, and its effects on the domestic industry.
