Diogo Thomson de Andrade, appointed by the government to the Tribunal of the Brazilian Competition Authority (CADE), took office as a Commissioner on December 27, after his appointment was published in yesterday’s edition of the Brazilian Official Gazette.
Since 2012, Diogo Thomson has served as Deputy-Superintendent at CADE. On December 12, the Federal Senate had approved his nomination, in a process that also involved hearings and approval by the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee.
Since early November, CADE’s Tribunal has lacked its minimum operating quorum, impacting the closing of transactions of mandatory notification and the ruling of anti-competitive conduct cases. With the new Commissioner taking office, deadlines return to normality.
The appointments of the other Commissioners recently approved were also published in yesterday's edition of the Official Gazette. The appointees will soon take up their new positions. They are:
i. José Levi do Amaral, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Superior Electoral Court and former Attorney-General of the Union.
ii. Camila Cabral Pires Alves, former Chief Economist at the CADE’s Department for Economic Studies.
iii. Carlos Jacques Vieira Gomes, Legislative Consultant at the Federal Senate in Economic Law and Business Law.
