Working Group is set up to review Common External Tariff (TEC) in Brazil

January 05, 2024

At the end of 2023, the Brazilian Government set up a Working Group to review the Common External Tariff, under CEC Resolution No. 6, of December 26, 2023.

The Working Group will last one year and might be extended to two years. Its purpose is to review the tariff structure in place within the Mercosur region, and the tariff exception mechanisms, in order to increase Brazilian competitiveness.

The Group will be formed by representatives from various ministries and will be coordinated by the Subsecretariat for Studies and Analysis of Commercial Policy of the Executive Secretariat of Camex (Foreign Trade Chamber of Commerce). Representatives of other bodies and entities of the Federal, State or Municipal Governments and from private sector entities may be invited to participate in meetings.

It is expected that the productive sector and consumers be called upon to express their views about the suggestions made, and that any modifications be implemented with caution, so that the private sector has time to adapt.
