Brazil: Opportunities for the regional airport of USIMINAS, State of Minas Gerais

The Minas Gerais State announced upcoming investments in the regional airport of USIMINAS (SBIP), also known as Airport of Ipatinga, through a Public Private Partnership.

The airport is located about six kilometers from the center of the city of Ipatinga. According to information released by the Minas Gerais Government, the airport runaway of 2,004 meters in length and 45 meters in width is also able to handle a large aviation system.

The request for tender drafts allows for a 30-year concession period, which may be renewed for an additional five years. The amount of revenues for the concessionaire is estimated at more than BRL 215 million, which will be paid during the entire period of the concession.

The winning bidder will be chosen based on the criteria of best technique, combined with the lowest yearly compensation amount charged from the Minas Gerais State Government. The draft bid documents allow the participation of Brazilian and foreign companies, individually or in consortium.
