Ministry of Health creates an enrollment of health professionals for actions against COVID-19 in Brazil

Considering the severity of the scenario caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, on March 31, 2020, the Ministry of Health published Ordinance No. 639/2020, by means of which established the strategic measure “Brazil is Counting On Me – Healthcare Professionals” (O Brasil Conta Comigo - Profissionais da Saúde), aiming at engaging more healthcare professionals in fighting against the disease and, thus, meet the population’s necessities. The action is expected to last until the end of the state of emergency in public health.

Such measure involves the creation of a general enrollment of healthcare professionals, qualified for practice in the Brazilian territory. This list shall be consulted by managers of the Brazilian Health System (SUS) on federal, state and municipal levels, if necessary, to reinforce the local healthcare service.

The professionals to whom the Ordinance is applicable are those from the following areas: social service, biology, biomedicine, fitness education, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, phonology, medicine, veterinary medicine, nutrition, dentistry and psychology, including radiology technicians.

Professional councils shall send to the Ministry of Health information concerning their relevant qualified professionals, and those will be informed by the council about the need to fill in electronic forms for enrollment before the platform.

Once such applicable forms have been filed in, the healthcare professional shall receive a link to access an online course, aiming at training them with the official protocols regarding fighting COVID-19, as approved by the Operations Center for Emergencies in Public Healthcare (COE-nCoV).

Those who do not enroll themselves in the system or do not complete the online course shall have their situation reported to the corresponding professional council and, thus, may be subject to administrative penalties.
