Event celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Brazilian Anti-Corruption Act
The series of panels organized by the UN Global Compact in Brazil, with the support of TozziniFreire Advogados, addresses the latest trends in public and corporate integrity
The month of August 2023 will be marked by a series of events to celebrate 10th anniversary of Act No.12,846/2013. A few years after the Brazilian Anti-corruption Act (Clean Company Act) has been published, we can see that turning traditional compliance programs into effective integrity systems has proven to be a strong trend, both in the governmental and private spheres, and governments and companies that properly understand this momentum and launch measures aimed at this evolution will certainly have huge social and financial advantages.
For this reason, given its strategic importance, the UN Global Compact in Brazil, with the support of TozziniFreire Advogados, organized a series of panels with debates about the evolution in the implementation and enhancement of integrity systems, as well as the development of technical defenses within the scope of Administrative Accountability Procedure (PAR, in Portuguese).
The event, conducted by Camila Valverde, COO for the UN Global Compact in Brazil, was opened by Carlo Pereira, CEO for the UN Global Compact, and Shin Jae Kim, leading partner for the Compliance & Investigation practice area at TozziniFreire Advogados.
"Introducing the Brazilian Anti-Corruption Act (Clean Company Act) in Brazil was a milestone. Today it celebrates 10 years, at a time of full of celebrations, such as the 20 years of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, 20 years of the Office of the Federal Controller General (CGU, in Portuguese) and 10 years of the Conflict of Interest Act. The Brazilian Anti-Corruption Act placed companies at the heart of this agenda and, today, one of its potential advancements is how to introduce a culture of integrity and anti-corruption in the value chain,” explains Carlo Pereira, CEO for the UN Global Compact in Brazil.
According to Shin Jae Kim, leading partner for the Compliance & Investigation practice area at TozziniFreire Advogados, “the last 10 years have shown great advancements in topics related to business anti-corruption practices. However, there are still many opportunities to enhance the understanding and coherence of policies aimed at promoting public integrity, conflict of interest management, and the promotion of risk management for integrity.”
The event was attended by 20 international and national panelists, who covered important topics, such as the evolution of Brazilian Anti-Corruption Act from the perspective of the Government, Compliance Officers, in the international landscape, as well as trends.
The event was closed by Marcelo Zenkner, partner for the areas of Administrative Law & Governmental Projects and Compliance & Investigation at TozziniFreire Advogados.
