Brazil: Public Consultation on Regulatory Agenda

The Brazilian Telecommunications Agency (“ANATEL”) submitted to a public consultation the regulatory agenda for the years 2015-2016 and the revocation of the General Plan for Updating Telecommunications Regulation in Brazil (PGR).

The regulatory agenda includes 33 items and is based on the following principles: (i) to promote the expansion of access and use of services, with quality, adequate prices and consumers satisfaction; and (ii) to stimulate competition, sustainability, and the dissemination of market data.

The major issues of the regulatory agenda are (i) the stance that ANATEL will adopt with respect to the net neutrality principle set forth in the Brazilian Internet Act; (ii) the review of regulations applicable to Switched Fixed Telephone Services (SFTS) and Conditioned Access Services; and (iii) the review of SFTS"s concession agreements.

The public consultation will end on July 29, 2015.
