Clara is partner and head of the Business and Human Rights practice area. Within over 10 years of experience at TozziniFreire, she works on prevention, strategic planning, and litigation involving Human Rights impacts on the production chain of business activity. Her activities include the elaboration of internal policies, training, contractual mechanisms appropriate to the prevention and remedy of Human Rights violations. Clara has experience negotiating with supervisory bodies (such as the Public Defender's Office and the Public Prosecutor's Office), conflict resolution in legal disputes, mediation and arbitration, consultations with the affected community, among others. She conducts due diligence and develops Human Rights Compliance programs. She is TozziniFreire's pro bono coordinator, with experience in philanthropic activities, strategic litigation, advocacy, and social impact businesses. She coordinated award-winning projects, such as the corporate management practice of trans people inclusion (Lumen, 2022), hiring trans people and rectifying documents (Latin Lawyer, 2023), Mutirão Jurídico (joint effort to provide pro bono legal guidance) in Heliópolis (Latin Lawyer, 2020), and the Guidebook to the Rights of People with Intellectual Disabilities (2019). Clara is also a private mediator and has worked in Public Law and Environment Law at the São Paulo Court of Justice. Graduate of the Law School PUC-SP, she took the program How to do Advocacy: effective social participation for NGOs, movements and collectives, by AdvocacyHub, and the WYSE International Leadership Program for Global Changemakers. Clara also holds a master´s degree in Constitutional Law, analyzing the effectiveness of self-composing methods to promote structural impacts on Human Rights, from PUC-SP. She is recognized by Análise Advocacia Mulher 2021 as one of the most admired female lawyers in Brazil. In 2020 e 2021, she was shortlisted as a Future Leader by Chambers Diversity & Inclusion. Received the awards for "Outstanding Contribution on Diversity and Inclusion" from Chambers Brazil 2024 and CEBDS for Women's Leadership in 2022. Partner in the Competition Law practice group at TozziniFreire, Guilherme has over 25 years of experience, having worked at both public agencies and private companies, assisting clients in different industries, such as pharmaceutical, telecommunications, internet, technology, payment service providers, food and beverages, textile, and plastics. His practice is focused on advising clients on cartel investigations and unilateral conducts, as well as on mergers and compliance programs. He served as general coordinator in the now extinct SDE (Secretariat of Economic Law) of the Ministry of Justice, where he conducted the first antitrust dawn raids and drafted the antitrust compliance guidelines (SDE Ordinance No. 14/2004). Graduate of the Law School of USP, he took a university extension program on Competition Law at FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas), and holds a master's degree in Commercial Law from USP (Universidade de São Paulo), and a doctorate degree in Administrative Law from USP. Karla Lini Maeji is a partner in the Compliance & Investigation practice at TozziniFreire with extensive experience acting as counsel for foreign listed companies doing business in Brazil, focusing her practice on internal investigations, and regulatory and criminal enforcement. She has conducted numerous cross-border investigations, especially into corruption, fraud, and procurement irregularities reporting to Audit Committees, interacting with external auditors, and having a keen eye for handling matters that may affect the company in different areas of law and jurisdictions. She has consistent experience strategically representing clients before multiple authorities, both in the context of leniency agreements and defense. Karla also regularly advises corporate clients on a broad range of compliance matters for having a deep understanding of her clients' business and potential impacts on the company. One of her initiatives was the creation and coordination of TozziniFreire´s Government Sales practice group, which consolidates all the experience acquired in cases involving the issue to offer truly multidisciplinary assistance to clients. Head of TozziniFreire's Competition Law practice, Marcelo was a commissioner of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), the Brazilian Competition Commission, from 1998 to 2000, and president of the Brazilian Institute of Studies on Competition, Consumer Affairs and International Trade (IBRAC), from 2010 to 2011. In addition, he has worked as an editorial writer and New York correspondent for the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo. He frequently lectures on Antitrust and Trade issues at events organized by IBA, ABA, IBRAC, and other entities around the world.
