TFAfro, the racial affinity group of TozziniFreire Advogados

In an event held in São Paulo and with a live broadcast to all TozziniFreire offices, it was officially launched the TFAfro, our racial affinity group. With the opening of CEO Fernando Serec, the meeting had a presentation of the group by the partner Kenneth Ferreira and the speech of the lawyer Sheila Carvalho, coordinator of Human Rights Projects at Ethos Institute. “Diversity and identity are important points for the values ​​of TozziniFreire. Dialogue in favor of racial equality is not only important but essential,” said Fernando Serec.

The objective of TFAfro is to discuss racial discrimination and the participation of black lawyers in the legal market, to propose actions that may change this scenario and to promote the inclusion and growth of professionals in business law, and to share experiences in the work environment. “It is very gratifying to be in a place like TozziniFreire, where race is genuinely discussed,” said partner Kenneth Ferreira.

The creation of the TFAfro is born from a series of works that have been developed for over a year within the TFDiversidade group. TozziniFreire promoted debates on racial equity in law firms and implemented affirmative action for inclusion. Among them, it is the support for Incluir Direito, an initiative of CESA, and partnership with Instituto Presbiteriano Mackenzie and Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, which aims to develop a coherent and affirmative action that contributes to the reduction of inequalities and discrimination in law firms. We are also members of the Coalizão Empresarial para Equidade Racial e de Gênero and actively participated in the creation of the Aliança Jurídica pela Equidade Racial, a group comprised of eight large law firms in Brazil and FGV Direito-SP.

The TFDiversidade and affinity groups

An affinity group gathers people around a specific theme with a common goal. In general, these groups are formed within the organization to address issues of diversity and to drive internal change in business culture, proposing and developing actions aimed at achieving certain goals.

At TozziniFreire, we already have a program of this nature: TFAffinity that was born in 2017 to discuss and implement initiatives aimed at the inclusion of the LGBTI +.
